BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Vecelia McGhie was a member of the Cooperative School for Teachers class of 1948. She worked as a nursery school teacher and later worked with Barbara Biber in the Bank Street College Graduate School. An active alumna of the College, McGhie died in 2000.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection documents Vecelia McGhie's work as Cooperative School student, nursery school teacher and Bank Street College Graduate School staff member. Custodial History Note: The Vecelia McGhie Papers were donated in 2006 by her son James McGhie.

DESCRIPTIONS

SERIES A - Graduate Coursework (1947-1948) includes coursework from her time as a student in the Cooperative School for Teachers.

SERIES B - Student Teaching Placement (1947-1949) includes logs, notes and other materials pertaining to student teaching placements in various classrooms.

SERIES C - Nursery School Files (1951-1958) contains correspondence and notes from schools in Ohio and upstate New York where McGhie taught.

SERIES D - Bank Street Courses (1955-1959) includes materials from graduate courses taught by Biber, Raban and Gilkeson. The files include class rosters, evaluations of student work and curriculum materials. It is unclear in what capacity McGhie was serving, but it appears that she may have been acting as a Teacher's Assistant for these courses.

SERIES E - Resources Files (1945-1958) contains bibliographies and pamphlets pertaining to early childhood education arranged by subject.
